Coloretto : collect those chameleons!

Yes, I’m back! It’s been a month and my move has been successful. While the game part of my living room isn’t completely done yet I can now live and game in my new apartment. I haven’t had time to set up any new games but I thought I’d give you all a quick overview of a really neat little filler game about chameleons that I took pictures of several months ago. It is called Coloretto and is a really neat and simple little card game with bright colours. In it you simply have to collect these charming little chameleons. Kodama : please the tree spirits

In Japanese folklore Kodama are spirits who inhabit trees, and cutting down such a tree would invoke a terrible curse. Of course you’re not one to go around felling trees with spirits living in them – instead you’re the caretaker of the forest and the Kodama. In the new Kickstarter funded game Kodama: The Tree Spirits from Action Phase Games, you are tasked to cultivate a beautiful tree and keep the Kodama living in it happy. Tend to their needs, and grow new branches thoughtfully, because whoever cares for their Kodama the best will be the foremost guardian of the forest and win the game.

Forbidden Island : get the treasures and don’t drown!

I love cooperative games (or co-ops) where all the players work together to survive and beat the game. To me the master of co-ops is game designer Matt Leacock. His games are polished and always ramp up the tension the longer you play, but they are not overly complicated or take all night. The first of his games that I tried was Forbidden Island, published by Gamewright. It’s a neat little co-op in which 2-4 adventurers work to get all four treasures while the island is sinking, trying to take both treasures and adventurers with it.
