The year 1278 a magnificent building project was started in the Spanish city of Grenada. The Moorish emir Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar ordered a small fortress, mostly in ruin, to be expanded and made into a fortified palace complex – The Alhambra. Now it’s your turn to do the same. In this award-winning game you have to remember to pay your craftsmen in their preferred currency and make sure that all areas of the palace complex is accessible by foot. If you do this, your might end up with the most impressive Alhambra…
I love beginner’s luck. And I don’t mean that I love that I can win in a game I’ve never played before. No, I mean I love losing to beginners. That statement should make it pretty clear that I am not a sore loser. Nor am I an obnoxious winner. I just really enjoy the process of playing the game, and people who take it too seriously tend to rub me the wrong way. As long as we have fun, I don’t really care about the outcome. Sure, I will totally chuckle evilly when things go my way and not yours, and I will be happy when I win, but I won’t be a douchecanoe about it.
Hi there guys!
I just wanted to let you know that I am in the middle of moving to a new place, and finishing up the semester’s (my last probably) school work. With very little free time, and the need to pack up both games and table, it will be hard for me to keep up the schedule of a review a week and biweekly kickstarter highlights.
I do however have one post scheduled, which is not a review but just musings on the concept of beginner’s luck. I also have pictures taken for two game posts, but have to finish editing them as well as finishing the second post in terms of writing. Hopefully I can find some time to do that, but just know that if there’s a week with nothing this is why. I am not giving up on the blog, not at all. I will return!
Remember to follow the Casual Meeple on Instagram! There’s always something happening, and I always try to answer comments there. And by all means, send me messages on the blog, email, instagram, or BGG if you want.
Now I shall continue packing, and I hope you’ll all have a great second half of May filled with lots of games!
I’m going to guess that you have all played a version of this game when you were kids, probably even in a car. You pick a category, and string together words where the last letter in the previous word is the first in the next. Sound familiar? Last Letter is a spin on this, using large cards with really interesting illustrations to move the game forward. It requires speed and creativity, but I’m sure you’re up for it!
May the fourth be with you! In case you’ve missed it, today is Star Wars day and I thought I should honour that by reviewing a themed game. So let’s go back to a time of galactic unrest. The Empire has the galaxy in a firm grip, with Emperor Palpatine and his loyal servant Darth Vader spreading terror everywhere. But a small band of Rebels are fighting for freedom for the galaxy, and with the Force on their side they might even stand a chance…
Which side will you choose in this struggle of Empire vs Rebellion?
